The Swedish Church in London has been a centre for fellowship for over 350 years. Activities in the church range from Sunday services, Sunday school, baptisms, weddings and funerals to pastoral activities for the young through to the old. There is also the outreach work which includes hospital and home visits, visiting the Swedish School, college students and prison visits. The well-renowned Christmas Market is an old tradition, and the church also celebrates Swedish festivals such as Lucia and Midsummer. The church also operates a Drop in Cafe.
The Swedish Church in London is part of the Swedish Church Abroad (SKUT) which oversees Swedish churches around the world. The Swedish Church in London has responsibility for outreach within the British Isles. The Church´s staff visit Swedes in many centers around the British Isles for fellowship and church services. The Swedish Church in London has a team of 11 employees plus many volunteers.
Job Description
The role of Financial Manager offers a wide range and varied position in an international environment. This is a stand-alone finance role, that is responsible for both financial management and day-to-day processing. The Finance Manager will be responsible for providing reports and analysis, for better management and control of the financing and operations of the organisation. They will also ensure compliance with the regulatory bodies.
The responsibilities include:
- Management of bookkeeping and HR reporting. Day-to-day control over all aspects of P&L and Balance Sheet
- Preparation of quarterly management accounts, quarterly reports to the Board and annual statutory accounts including liaising with external auditors
- Responsibility for day-to-day fiscal issues
- Overseeing of insurance and contracts relating to the property
- Ongoing responsibility for budget, analysis, business planning development
- Providing financial reports to key stakeholders as required including reviewing and reporting on performance against budget
- Responsibility for VAT returns, and other regulatory reporting to HMRC, Charity Commission and Companies House and other regulatory bodies.
- Develop financial processes and systems to provide an efficient and effective use of resources
- Manage cashflow
- Undertake the day-to-day bookkeeping processes and reconciliations for all payment, income and bank activities.
- Liaise with payroll provider for monthly payroll and be responsible for pension payments
- Work with the Events manager to ensure the financial information in the membership system is maintained and accurate and managing Gift Aid process.
- Be responsible for insurance and IT contracts, and ensuring the services meet the organisation’s needs.
Profile
- The Successful candidate will likely have the following profile: Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) with at least 5 years’ experience.
- Experience of preparing management accounts and SORP
- Knowledge and experience of UK regulatory and charity framework.
- Confidence and strong interpersonal skills, as there will be a lot of interfacing with different groups from stakeholders to volunteers
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent IT skills with advanced knowledge of MS excel.
- Experience of accounting systems and donor management systems, ideally Xero and Infoodle Candidates need to be fluent in English, Swedish is an advantage.
- Used to working in a small organization with a wide range of responsibilities and not afraid to do tasks outside the scope of responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently and self-sufficient but also a good team player
- Must be analytical, business orientated as well as good communicators and able to deliver to deadlines. Need to have the right to work and reside in the UK, no sponsorship will be provided.

The successful candidate should have an understanding of the Swedish Church and its values.
Employment and working hours
This is a part-time position but can be adjusted to a full-time position for the right candidate. Some weekend and evening work will be required on an ad hoc basis. This is a permanent position.
